Christmas Party / Toy Collection Update

The Christmas Party was a big success! We had approximately 52 people in attendance at last count. Thank you to all who came out and joined us.

We also want to thank you for your overwhelming generosity with the toy donations for children with cancer. Our collection box was overflowing with toys by the end of the evening. We collected over 75 different toys and they were delivered by the Timonium Optimist Club. You have made a lot of very sick children very happy!

Just a friendly reminder of our next meeting, Thursday, Jan.19. We meet at The Green Turtle in Hunt Valley, beginning with dinner at 6:30, and commencing at 7:00 pm.

Please note this meeting will announce a fundamental change in our club. Please come ready to ask questions about our decision.

Without sounding over-philosophical, I had to sit and think about what we are trying to accomplish. I found two quotes from Geoffrey F. Albert that are applicable:

“But what do we mean by the American Revolution? Do we mean the American War? The revolution was effected before the war commenced. The revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people.”

“It often takes more courage to change one’s opinion than to stick to it.”

We, number one, need to have courage to be able to listen to ideas, but also give individuals sharing those ideas the respect they deserve.

Second, if we accept premise number one, we will recognize we are battling not a change of policy and politics; but within the arena of ideas, the hearts and the minds of people.

My friends, I hope this meeting will establish a firm foundation for the future of our club. I hope you will join us.
