Operation Welcome Home In
Northern Baltimore County!
Operation Welcome Home MD is a statewide program of volunteers who greet our returning troops when they arrive at BWI airport. It was founded jointly by Serviceman Kathy Thorp and John Flynn, the past Executive Director of MDGOP.
We give our military servicemen and women a heroes’ welcome with signs and banners, applause, cards and letters, and care packages. Typically, we have up to 300 volunteers present as well as news media. And the effort is growing.
The troops really appreciate the welcoming events. It is so important to express our thanks, as well as being a terrific opportunity for parents to teach their kids about volunteering, patriotism and civic duty in a positive family atmosphere.
It is my hope that many other local families will get involved in this effort. Sometimes, carpools can be arranged from Jacksonville Elementary for weekend events. Even if you can’t make it to BWI, please consider donating food items and writing letters to the troops. Please share this information with your friends, neighbors, and scout troops.
